Iowa Company Introduces Unique Line of Green Acoustic Door Core Products Clarksville, IA – High performance acoustic doors historically have been the territory of only a few of the largest door manufacturers. The cost and expertise required to develop a commercial door that could receive a high “STC” rating meant that only a few companies were able to offer a comprehensive product line of noise reducing doors. In recent years, the demand for quiet has grown and more municipalities and architects are requiring doors with higher levels of noise reducing performance. Companies that could not offer options for these applications were left at a significant disadvantage.

While a problem for some, the increased demand for acoustic performance opened up new opportunities for companies like Creative Composites, an innovative development and manufacturing company started in 2002. Founded to research and commercialize products utilizing rapidly renewable materials, Creative Composites developed unique designs and processes to form acoustic panels made from different natural fibers such as kenaf, jute or industrial hemp. Early on, engineers at Creative Composites recognized that specially designed panels made from these materials did an excellent job of absorbing sound. “Some of our first university research involved acoustic testing; we were very excited by the results,” says Craig Shore, President and founder of Creative Composites. “Right away we began looking for applications where this could be used.”

The Creative Composites acoustic panels became the foundation for the RigiCore door core produced at their Clarksville, IA location. Developed as a core inside wood flush doors, Creative Composites was able to successfully design a core assembly that could be incorporated into virtually any flush wood door, instantly giving the door extremely good noise reduction performance. “We did a lot of work to develop something that would be easy for our customers to incorporate into their product line and give high end acoustic performance,” commented Curtis Carroll, acoustic engineer for Creative Composites at the development location in Ankeny, IA. “With the new generation of acoustic door cores, we received an STC 46 certification, which is a very high noise reduction rating for a wood door.”

With the two new door cores, RigiCore GP and RigiCore EX, Creative Composites now has a solution for door manufacturers who want an off-the-shelf product to immediately produce STC rated acoustic doors. Ralph Scheidecker, general manager for Creative Composites, said, “Our customers appreciate the fact that we can give them door cores that they can easily incorporate into their manufacturing line and provide instant access to new door markets. With our R&D capabilities, we can work with them to develop a custom product as well. We think our unique capabilities will allow Creative Composites to grow with the needs of our customers.”

With the current economic climate, competition among door manufacturers, and the need to engage in new markets, Creative Composites stands to be a key player. They also serve as an encouraging reminder that in the midst of economic recession, creativity and entrepreneurship can still thrive. For More Information:
